A few of the reasons ASEAN was established was to encourage political and economic cooperation and prevent political conflict amongst the nations as well as helping to develop each other since some of nations of Southeast asia is not as developed as some countries. On August 8 1967 in bangkok thailand the first founding countries signed the ASEAN declaration which were thailand, singapore, indonesia, malaysia and the Philippines then followed by some smaller and weaker countries such as Brunei Darussalam on jan 7 1984, Vietnam 28 july 1995,Lao PDR, Myanmar on 23 july 1997 followed by the tenth member cambodia on 30 april 1999. Even though most of the asean countries are still not developed that much the ASEAN members which joined a while after was founded were in a very weak state so asean ASEAN was their gateway to get support and aid from other countries to grow their state. Also joining ASEAN could give the countries more opportunities to connect more in the international area.
