Unlike the resume, the CV is usually longer and more detailed. In academia and research positions, prime considerations are given to not only where one studied but also, what one studied. The curriculum vitae would be relevant to Tesco because this is what candidates would primarily give when applying for a position in Tesco, the CV is used in all types of vacancy positions whether it being the store manager, security or sales advisors.

Contracts of employment A contract of employment is an agreement between an employer and an employee which sets out their employment rights, responsibilities and duties. These are called the ‘terms’ of the contract. Contract terms can come from a number of different sources. For example they could be: ? verbally agreed ? in a written contract, or similar document ? in an employee handbook or on a company notice board ? in an offer letter from your employer etc. The employment contract is made as soon as you accept a job offer. If you start work it will show that you accepted the job on the terms offered by the employer, even if you don’t know what they are. The contract helps cut misunderstanding between the employer and employee at a later date. It also helps the employee understand their employer rights. Both the employer and employee are bound by the agreement until it ends. Tesco will have to insure the contracts of employment are clearly understood by the employee this is because within the contracts of employment it includes agreements between Tesco and the employee so they understand their employment rights,

responsibilities and duties.

The language used in a job advertisement should be simple and sentences short and direct. Bullet points are a useful format to list details like salary, location, start date, role, purpose and experience required. Tesco would have to find ways to advertise their vacancies; this would not be difficult for them because of their sheer size. They have many options like their website, newspaper, job center, internal advertisement and also advertisement within their branch.

Letter of application An application letter is merely another name for a cover letter, the official business letter often included with a job application and/or resume and sent to a prospective employer. Although application letters are generally considered optional components of applying for a job, more and more frequently, employers are singling out those who actually take the time to write an application letter as their top picks. Buildings and Facilities. Businesses need premises to operate. Buildings can play an important role in the image of a business to bring in more customers. When customers enter the building, facilities need to be arranged for them such as waiting rooms. Banks often have desks or rooms where clients can talk to an adviser about the bank’s products and services.

Licenses allow employees to use software at one computer or several computers depending on the license’s usability. Sometimes businesses use unauthorized software or use genuine licenses of software for more than one computer. This is considered a crime. Sometimes they may over license by buying individual licenses for more money whereas a composite license can be bought for less money.

M1: Explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of a selected organization.

In this assignment I will be explaining how Tesco manages the human, physical and technological resources to improve the performance of their workplace.

Human resources are the people who make up the workforce of an organization, business sector, or economy. “Human capital” is sometimes used synonymously with “human resources”

Explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the performance of Thorpe Park. In this task, I will be explaining how Tesco manage their human, physical and technological resources and how good management of these resources improve their performance.

1. Good management of Tesco’s physical resources

Physical resources are the man-made tools or equipment needed for the day-to-day running of Tesco. Basically, physical resources are anything that provides Tesco with the means to perform its business processes. Tesco’s physical resources are in good condition and safe to use by the employees. They also aid the employees in maintaining the stores. This ensures customer needs and expectations are met and satisfied. Meeting customers’ needs and expectations ensures repeat business for Tesco and more customers. More customers and repeat business will lead to an increase in the sales of the products and more profit for Tesco. Tesco can then use this extra profit to re-invest into building new stores, maintaining existing ones and many more.

2. Good management of Tesco’s human resources Human resources are the set of individuals who make up the workforce of an organization and in this case Tesco. It also refers to the division of Tesco that is focused on activities relating to employees. Tesco can manage their human resources well and this can be done through various means. These means are by granting their employees free travel and food, discount on products bought in the store, premium pay rates and other benefits from being an employee in Tesco. By doing this, the employees of Tesco are motivated to give their all to customers and be productive. Tesco can manage their human resource well by training their employees. Training is the ability to give employees skills and knowledge to do their job properly. They can provide this training for employees through the recruitment process. The process of finding and hiring the best-qualified candidate (from within or outside of an organization) for a job opening, in a timely and cost effective manner. They do this by identifying the need for a new employee, describing who you want through a person specification, describing what you want them to do through a job description, attracting potential employees, analyzing candidates’ strengths and weaknesses and selecting the best person for the job.

If the potential employee decides to take the job, Tesco can then train the employee. However, if the potential employee decides to reject the job offer, they will have to start the recruitment process again which in the long run wastes time, money and reduces productivity. If the employee is recruited well, they will be able to meet the needs and expectations of customers. If the employees of Tesco are trained well, the employees will be able to do their work effectively and also meet the expectations of the customers. Tesco meeting the needs and expectations allows them to build a good reputation and gives them more customers than their competitors such as Sainsbury’s, Aldi or any other retailer. This will allow Tesco to expand as a business and increase their market share.

3. Good management of Tesco’s technological resources

Technological resources are resources such as software, designs, music, or text. These resources are owned like physical resources and are known as ‘intellectual property.’ Intellectual property laws allow people to own ideas and have rights over them. Tesco can manage their technological resources well by constantly checking their programs and making sure they do not crash. They can manage technological resources by updating software regularly and making sure they run smoothly. Also, Tesco has to have an IT team who specialize in ensuring programs are running smoothly and upgraded and updated regularly. Furthermore, check out system, the CCTV cameras, security systems, speaker systems all shows that the technological resources in Tesco are being managed well. By Thorpe Park managing their technological resources well, the customers’ experience is enhanced. This makes the customers of Tesco happy, safe and satisfied because they are able shop and enjoy the process. This will result in repeat business for Tesco and will allow Tesco to attain more customers which will boost their sales, profit and reputation in the long run.

Almost all modern workplaces need their employees to communicate well with each other, their supervisors or managers, and their customers or service users. It is impossible for companies and organizations to offer a good service to their customers or service users, unless their employees work as a team and communicate. More jobs need workers who have the skills and ability to use numbers, computers, telephones and the written word to get things done. About ten years ago for example, It may have been possible to do a basic practical job, using job-specific practical skills learnt at work, without using any reading or writing skills.
